 as she presents civils right hymns at the opening ceremony of City of Aurora’s 30th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, Candlelight Vigil with events from Jan. 10 through Jan. 27, 2016.

Aurora was the first city in Colorado to host week-long events honoring the timeless message of Dr. King. Join the city to celebrate the life and legacy of one man and his dream of freedom and equality for all, with such notable events as the At the Table production of Dr. King’s life on Jan. 10, an Opening Ceremony and Candlelight Vigil on Jan. 11, and a Motorcade through the city on Jan. 18. This year’s theme is “The Promise of Democracy: Breaking Barriers and Borders.”

The 30th annual commemoration features special guest the Rev. John L. Thompson, who walked with King in support of civil rights. Thompson is the former senior pastor of Park Hill United Methodist Church in Denver and former chaplain for the Colorado Senate.
